Self shipping is the act of putting yourself (or a character proxy) in a relationship with a fictional character that you have romantic, sexual, or other feelings for.
💖 What is an F/O?
“F/O” stands for “Fictional Other” and is derived from the term “S/O” which stands for “significant other”; meaning the person you’re in a relationship with. “F/O” or “fictional other” means the character you’re in a relationship with.Â
Example: Sephiroth is my F/O! I love our relationship, he is such a great fictional other to have.
💖Who can self ship?
Anyone can self ship! If you like a character and you want to have a relationship with them, you can consider yourself a self shipper.
💖 Am I too old to self ship?
You are never too old to self ship. You are never too young, either.
💖 What characters are acceptable to self ship with?
It is acceptable to self ship with any character that you want a relationship with. Nothing else matters. It doesn’t matter if it’s a “problematic relationship”, if the character is older or younger than you, if the character is a villain, if the character is so minor they barely exist, if the character is an OC, or anything else. Any character you want a relationship with is okay to self ship with.
💖 Who exactly is shipped with an F/O?
Some people ship their F/O with their IRL self. Some people ship their F/O with a “Self insert character” who is like their IRL self but in their F/O’s fictional world. Some people ship their F/O with an “original character” who they don’t consider a self insert. Some people ship their F/O with their kintype/kinself. Any way you want to ship your F/O is fine!

💖 Is it okay to take a break from self shipping?
It is always okay to take a break from self shipping, or to step back and focus on other things in your life, or other relationships. Your F/O will never be mad or hurt because you needed to take a break, and they will always support you focusing on what you need.
💖 How many F/Os can you have at a time?
As many as you want to have. There is no limit.
💖 Can I have an F/O if I already have an IRL relationship, or want an IRL relationship in the future?
Yes you can! Self shipping can be completely separate from your IRL relationship, or it can even be a fun activity that you and your IRL partner engage in together.
💖 What if someone else has the same F/O as me?
It’s totally okay for two people or more to have the same character as their F/O. Each person’s relationship with that character is completely separate, and they are their own separate unique F/O that belongs only to the person in the relationship with them.
💖 What if I don’t want to share my F/O?
It’s always okay to feel jealous and want to keep your F/O to yourself rather than share them. What you can do in that case is block other people who have the same F/O, and filter or avoid posts about other people self shipping with the same F/O.Â
You should never, ever harass, bully, stalk, or be aggressive towards someone who has the same F/O as you.
